Hair porosity is one of the criteria that we can classify our hair. It is extremely useful for the selection of individual products in terms of used ingredients and their amount.

Low Porosity
Low porosity hair characterise with closed hair scales. (Usually stright hair.) They are silky, smooth, resistant to demage, but also restive for styling and due to coming back to its shape, rarely getting frizzy because they also don't tend to lose moisture, but they tends to go static (especially in winter). They also tend to getting greesy so don't need very deep conditioners or hair masks.
Low porosity hair taking time to absorb water so it takes more time to dry.

What is recommended?
Combing only while they dry, hot oil treatment, use light creams and conditioners. Use oils with saturated fatty acids.

Oils for low porosity hair: coconut oil, Shea butter, cacao butter, palm oil, babassu oil
Conditioners: Isana
Medium Porosity
It is most common type of hair (they may be wavy or any type) not too dry or demaged but not this smooth as low prosity. They having mixed features of low and high prosity.

They can dry long or sometimes vary fast especially when the hair condition is weaker. This type of hair absorbs water quality.

What is recommended?
Brush your hair only on conditioner or hair mask while they're wet. Use deep conditioners and hairmasks, use heavier creams, custards and butters. Use oils with unsaturated fatty acids (omega-3 or omega-6)
Good ingradients: certain, apple vinegar, humecats, flaxseeds, light silicones
Oils for high porosity hair: flaxseed oil, grape oil, wheat germ oil
Hair porosity test :
If you are still unsure about your hair porosity, try this easy test.

Just take one strand of your hair and put it in a glass of room temp. water.
Observe the results:
Hight porosity hair absorbs all the water as they have wide open cuticles. As a result the hair strand will sink. Low porosity it will float. Medium porosity stays in the middle of the glass.
Hair porosity can change into higher or lower depending on how we treat them.
After some time of proper hair care they porosity can get lower or it can get higher after demaging them with color or bleach or other risky treatments. In some cases it may be uneasy to change it as porosity is in their nature (e.g. they are curly) or their poroity is genetic.
How to improve hair porosity?
Keep peh balance, apply oils, apply deep conditioners sistematicly, keep to the 3 hair rules as they can help to absorb all the nutrients which will inturn improve your hair porosity.
